How to maintain your scalp and beard during the COVID-19 quarantine

Mastermind Connect member Frank Billini is a master barber, and an expert on men’s grooming. When I asked him for tips, Frank sent us a whole blog, so I decided to share our conversation instead. It turns out I have been shampooing my big ass head all wrong for years.

We’re locked in our homes and many are unable to keep up their regular grooming regiments, or visit their barbers.

I went out and purchased some clippers and a liner. I found myself holding a mirror screaming “I hate it here!” but managed to pull off a desperado skin fade in the end. We must continue to take care of ourselves to boost morale, and so that we can still have a “Hot Boy” come Summer.

The conversation went like this…

Me: Yo Frank! Do you have any quarantine grooming tips, my dude?

Frank: For starters, don’t over-shampoo. Your scalp creates natural oils and nutrients needed to promote healthy hair growth. Shampoo only 2-3 times a week tops, especially if you are isolated and moving around less.

Moisturize, like it’s your new favorite word! Conditioning is an important step but not where it ends for moisture. A beard and hair oil is an essential part of the daily routine. Start with two drops first thing in the morning (a little goes a long way). This step done right will fill out and strengthen your beard.

Avoid the razor, especially below the jaw. Take this time to destress the skin from inflamed pores aka ingrown hairs caused by blade friction.

Last but not least, when getting down to biz- prep your skin before shaving by simply; cleansing, exfoliating with a scrub, and toning with astringent or something mild like witch hazel, after shaving.

I prefer using trimmers more often to shave but I still prep my skin.

After shaving, always moisturize your face with a facial moisturizer or oil.

Me: Thanks Frank! You’re the man!!
